Ugh, allergies are kicking my butt. But I will not let them keep me from writing this post.
First, I am writing this while I attempt to make waffles on my new waffle maker. I am not off to a good start as I misread the waffle directions because the numbers were blurry. (I though it said 1 1/2 cups for both the mix and the milk, but it said 1 1/3 cup and 1 1/4 cup, respectively.) Does this mean I have to start wearing reading glasses? I think this is definitely a writing on the wall situation.
Okay, maybe not Pacey’s writing on the wall to Joey situation, but still.
Second, TV has been very good to me this past few weeks.
I have a regularly scheduled appointment on Saturdays from 10-11:30 a.m., which is fine, but after that, instead of going straight home, I decided to run some errands which both ate into my reading time (though I did listen to an audiobook in the car) and also exhausted me, which led to me falling asleep for the last three hours of the read-a-thon when I intended to take a 10-minute nap.
My semester officially ended yesterday–just in time for the summer session to start tomorrow 😅😬. I signed up to teach a summer creative writing workshop because it sounds “fun,” and now that I have exactly one day to prep for it, I’m reconsidering my life choices 😂😂😂.
The good news is that it will be fun! The better news is that the creative writing coordinator has basically prepped the whole class for me. I just have to plug in some readings and, you know, do the actual work of teaching the class. There are worse ways to spend a summer for sure.
Last time we met, I said that I had reintroduced cauliflower into my diet, and it was something I could have in small amounts if I really wanted it. WRONG. Cauliflower and I are no longer friends. Which means that most mushrooms are out. Oh, and apples and I have grown apart (this also explains so much). It’s just wild that all of these good for me foods have been slowly destroying my insides. Oh well.
In related news, I found out yesterday at CVS that the probiotic I’ve been taking to help with my stomach issues and to restore my gut to good health contains one of my no-no ingredients. I do not think I can tell you how pissed I was about it. This was definitely my mood:
I don’t know what to post about today, probably because I had a bit of a nothing day. Still, though, I feel like I’ve hit a wall.
Today, I woke up, showered, ate breakfast, checked email, did a little course prep, took a nap, set up my gradebook (finally), had a snack, and now I’m just kind of twiddling my thumbs. I don’t know why because I have plenty to do to prep for the week AND I’m going to get a ton of grading tomorrow AND I’m behind on Canvas grading. But I just am where I am, I guess.
To end this on an up note, I am glad I set up my gradebook. Last semester, I used the provided attendance printout and just felt out of sorts all semester because everything was all scattered and not in one place. So I feel so much better knowing that all of my students’ information is neatly tucked in the pages of my gradebook. Whew.
Okay, I am a little ready, but I am mostly not ready. I am especially not ready to live that 7 a.m. class life again.
2. My friend Jasmine’s book came out. You may have heard of it:
She did a launch party in LA at The Ripped Bodice, so I got the chance to hang out with her and a bunch of other super cool authors and non-author people, including one of my online friends who I kept trying to meet but our schedules just couldn’t get it together. But! On that day, it worked out! So, that was fun. (It was more than fun.)
There are many things I loved about The Baby-Sitters Club, but mostly I love that it’s about all the things I still think are important: female friendship, girls getting things done, girls working together to get things done, and series fiction. Also, let’s be real: my desire to do a Disney Cruise probably all stems from the first BSC Super Special, Baby-Sitters on Board.
I definitely tried to emulate the structure of the BSC books as a baby writer. I was all about diary entries to start a chapter.
I can’t think of how to wrap this up, but I just want to say that these books were extremely important to me in elementary school. I read them voraciously. I would go to the bookstore just to find the next book in the series. They brought me a lot of joy, and I loved the characters very much.
Stacey was obviously my favorite, which is why I picked her first book as the image for this post.
I am not participating in NaNoWriMo, but I did decide today to blog every day for the month of November. What better way to start than to catch up on all the blog posts I didn’t make during the last two weeks of October?
(Also, I only have 20 minutes to crank this out, so let’s see how it goes.)
1. My daughter came to visit me for her fall break and the whole thing was an adventure. She missed her flight, we rode public transportation, she got sick, and then some other stuff happened that I don’t remember because I didn’t blog about it. The short version is adventure! The long version is lost somewhere in my brain.
2. I finished two books (er, abandoned one actually):

But a few years ago, I did a 32 things to do before I turn 33 project, and I’m looking to do something similar for my 40th birthday. I am looking for suggestions of cool things to do by my 40th birthday or before my 40th year is up (this is still very much in the conception stage, obvs.)
I did wind up completing quite a few things on my 32 list, so I need to rebuild. Here are some things I’m already planning to do/considering doing:
Go see Hamilton
Go to Harry Potter world
Do one of those paint class things
Take a knife skills class
ride in a hot air balloon
go to a taping of Price Is Right
go to Hawaii
finish reading the Bible
post a YouTube video
NOTE: I am not jumping off a bridge or out of a plane, so please do not suggest bungee jumping or skydiving. They are both an automatic no. Anything else will be seriously considered! So please post some suggestions in the comments.

School started last week, and my students are blogging this semester. You know what that means! Back to a regular posting schedule. So let’s do this.
1. Since I am in what I’m going to call the hazing period at my new job, my earlier class starts at 7 a.m. on Monday/Wednesday and 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday/Thursday. This is…not ideal to say the last. I am a night owl, so acclimating to this new schedule is something that’s going to take some time. For now, I’m forcing myself to go to bed early, so I can figure out what will work. This has so far included getting up early on today (my day off) as well.
I’d say it’s going pretty well considering I went to bed too early so woke up an hour before my alarm went off, and I just woke up from a nap about 20 minutes ago. I am making this deep sacrifice because I was absolutely horrendous (okay, crabbier than I wanted to be) to my class on Wednesday because I was so exhausted, and I do not want to be that person. It’s a challenge.
